How to Use Online Marketing for Boring Industries

Just because you run an insurance company... or a financial company... or any type of company that most people would consider boring doesn't mean that you can't run a successful marketing campaign online.  Many people fall victim to this misconception because they see all the fun and viral content that scrolls by in their social media feed day after day.

If your industry is traditionally a boring one, then it just means that you have to more a bit more creative and think outside the box if you want to get your customer's attention.  So let's take a look at some simple steps you can take to rise to the challenge.

Get your own head on straight!

That's right... you heard me.  The first step you have to take is to shake off the thinking that you, your company, your product, or your services are boring.  Buddha says that "The mind is everything.  What you think, you become."

So step back from that way of thinking and get your head on straight.

Don't be afraid to be yourself!

You are most likely successful at what you do because you're you!

You are more than your services and products.  You bring personality, experience, and vitality to your industry.  So don't stick to tired and overused taglines and mottos like "putting customers first" or "saving you money."  Be different.  Be unique.  Stand out from the crowd.

Check out some examples...

Hi Oscar

HI OSCAR! ( https://www.hioscar.com)  This is a great example of a health insurance company that just gets it.  They know that customers are rushed, and don't have time to dig into complicated jargon and sales pitches.  So they based their whole company and image around being simple and easy for customers to interact with.

A dirty job

Oranje is a cleaning company that masters empathy with their customers to get their attention.  As a commercial cleaning company, they know that they specialize in dealing with things that most people don't want to think about.  So they use their website to tell us story about what it's like to work with most companies like them.

Then they tell you why they are different and how they are easier to work with.  They solved a problem.  Any time you can solve a problem or fill a need, that's going to set you ahead of your competitors when it comes to marketing online.

Being boring can actually work in your favor!

Because of that misconception that marketing online won't work for boring industries, you could have a fantastic advantage if your competitors aren't making that leap.  That means that you could actually have less competition online versus other companies.

Be Relevant!

Another way to write content and promote your company online is to focus on topics related to your industry instead of writing directly about it.  For example, let's say you sell life insurance.  Instead of writing about facts and stats about death rates, you might write something a tad more interesting, like "5 interesting things you didn't know about death."  That keeps the conversation in your wheelhouse without making people think about their impending demise in a somber way.

So... stop wallowing in your own boredom!

You can totally market your company online... just relax and remember to be yourself.  And if you have any questions comment them below and we can work together to get you on the right path.

One of my first jobs was running a cash register in my grandmothers diner. My job was to talk to customers and and to keep everything in my area neat and organized. Now years later those lessons I learned help me in managing client files and projects. Making sure our team is working to help our clients reach their business goals is what drives me everyday.

I am a strong believer that to succeed in life you have to work hard and never let roadblocks stand in your way. You have to read and study but you also have to experience life and all that it can teach you.

My mission is to help clients and our team have the materials and knowledge they need to make every project a success, while making sure to spread some of the information I learn around for others to enjoy.
